A.E.
Barnes
A.E. Barnes (Elie) lives and paints in a one hundred year old house in downtown Pensacola, Florida. She grew up, for the most part, in neighboring Fort Walton Beach and is a true Florida girl. Although she travels frequently and widely, she loves the sun, climate and old world charm of Pensacola, calling it her heart’s true home.
A.E. Barnes has been painting since 1990 although she did not formally study the subject. She has a B.A. degree from The University of West Florida in Philosophy and Religious Studies and took up painting on a whim. Her mother, famous watercolorist Diana Barnes, has been the backbone of her inspiration. Elie has become a very famous international painter in a short time. Her work sells in galleries throughout the United States, Mexico and Europe. Famous collectors of her work include Rod Stewart and Reggie Jackson. She attributes her success to hard work, a cheerful attitude and positive magic.
Elie has a deep yearning for beauty and tranquility and tries to get this pleasant feeling across in her paintings. She loves and studies the work of many impressionist and post-impressionist painters, including her favorite, Henri Matisse. She says that he came to her in a dream one night and said she was on the right track.
Elie is also a writer, doing freelance work for an alternative newspaper in Pensacola and she produces and publishes her own magazine, Under The Sun. Her publication covers alternative art, ideas and politics for her city. She is active in historic community re-development, focusing on her own Bohemian neighborhood, Old East Hill preservation District. She hangs out with hippies, shamans, magicians, writers, artists and very handsome men.
