Janet Tillery

Color and exuberance are hallmarks of Janet’s paintings.  She says, “I get a feeling of excitement painting on site that you just can’t find in the studio.”  Some of her best paintings have been done on location in Maine, Mexico, Italy, the Caribbean, France and Portugal.

Janet grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida.  She earned a fine arts degree from Florida Southern and did advanced work at Florida State.  Janet has combined academic training with more than forty years of experience and hard work to become an outstanding southern artist.

She is best known for her oils done with a knife, but Janet also enjoys combining watercolors with pen and ink sketches.  She has shared her knowledge through many years of teaching at Birmingham Museum of Art and conducting a limited number of workshops around the state each year.

Janet has had numerous one-woman shows including one at the Montgomery Museum of Art.  Her work is in private and corporate collections throughout the South.
