Lee
Hamblin
Lee Hamblen has been a member of the Nashville Arts community for over twenty years. Born in Montgomery, Alabama , she studied at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, and the Harris School in Franklin, Tennessee. She resides in Brentwood with her husband, Jim, and their three children.
After college, Lee enjoyed a successful career as a commercial artist and designer with several publishing companies. As the demands (and joys) of her family grew, she turned more to the fine arts as a way to
express her creativity. By blending these two loves she has achieved what viewers often describe as a
“feeling of nostalgia” in her work. Frequently, people see themselves and their families in her scenes. Lee’s family had a cottage in Destin since the 1940’s and she is well known for the paintings of children and
families on the beach.
The use of texture, dark and light color contrast, and an illusion of transparency frequently characterize Lee’s work. She professes to draw inspiration from a variety of sources: from studying her favorite artists (Mary Cassatt, Rembrandt and Winslow Homer), to attending plein air workshops, to painting with friends. |
