Ron Thomson

I have been interested in drawing since I was very young. At the age of 18 months I would take a pen and draw tiny spirals and make marks for long periods of time. I spent my childhood in a home on a river where I developed a love for nature which I try to put into my paintings to this day.

I graduated from FSU with a Bachelors in Fine Arts, married a wonderful woman who believed in me and we had two amazing children. I worked as a stay-at-home Dad/fulltime artist for 8 years. During this time we moved to Oregon where I painted mostly landscapes, but did a lot of figural study as well. In 2003 we moved to the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay to be close to our families.

I couldn't have landed in a better place. I worked for one intense year sculpting and painting Mardi Gras floats. I probably learned more about color there than I did in college. I worked for 2 years as a graphic artist at a screen-printing company in Fairhope, AL. It was during this time that I began painting outside in downtown Fairhope. The community and the other artists have fed my artistic appetite like nothing else.

My time is currently split up between painting and teaching workshops. My workshops focus on capturing light and using vivid color to express the joy of life and being an artist. I am thrilled to share with others my excitement of painting in oils.
