Stephanie Quinn Wheeler

Atlanta based artist, Stephanie Wheeler, has been noted by many for exceptional command of, and fearless use of, color. Her multi-layered palette knife work along with a few new techniques add intrigue to some of her favorite subject matters. Her oil paintings are vibrant, depicting vivid settings. She explores the landscape, mainly Colorado and Europe, in search of a scene that feeds her soul, "that is how I get inspired!"

Stephanie Quinn Wheeler artistOne of Ms. Wheeler's favorite female impressionists Berthe Morisot once said, "It is important to express oneself.....provided the feelings are real and are taken from your own experience." Stephanie dabbles in plein air painting but considers herself primarily a studio painter. The artist claims that painting on location is truly the only way to understand the play of light in the landscape. The experience and knowledge she has acquired painting outdoors is just as essential to her in the process as are the paint and the brushes. On recent excursions to Italy and Colorado, she came home with a loaded suitcase full of small studies that capture the essence of the countryside, which will all be used for larger scale paintings created in her studio.

As Ms. Wheeler's work has evolved over the last few years, she states,

"Yes, I am interested in light and color......but that is only part of the story. Currently, I am just as focused on my interpretation of the subject. Using more texture and how the paint responds to it.....this becomes the subject matter, at times. Each painting goes through a thought provoking process between abstraction and reality."

This ecstatic intensity is portrayed in her new floral and still life paintings.

Ms. Wheeler makes her home and studio in Smyrna, Georgia, just minutes from Atlanta. She travels extensively around the country for exhibitions and art festivals. Her 2 dogs, Muffin and Cookie, keep her company while she is on the road!
