Trevor
"Keep your eye on this artist! He's talented and charming." -Nashville Scene "
Trevor Mikula regularly exhibits in galleries across the country including Wilde Meyer Gallery in Scottsdale, Bennett Galleries in Nashville, Nordy's Gallery in Birmingham, Weber Fine Art in D.C. and The Studio Gallery in Grayton Beach. He is in numerous private and corporate collections across the country. He has collectors as far away as Bahrain in the Persian Gulf.
Trevor Mikula was born May 19th, 1980 in Saginaw, Michigan. He has an identical twin brother that comes to art shows and confuses everyone. His name is Toby. He also has an older brother, Cory. The Mikula family relocated to Columbia, Tennessee in the summer of 1988. They all eat grits and consider themselves true southerners. The boys grew up with no TV in the house, forcing them to be very creative. Their poor mother was constantly putting up with their wild imaginations.
At age 18, Trevor attended ArtLab Studios in Melbourne, Australia. There he studied graphic design, advertising, composition, and color theory. Upon returning to Nashville, he enrolled in the Visual Communications classes at Nashville State Technical Institute. He also started painting and experimenting with fine art. Trevor worked for a graphics firm for a while but decided to be more serious about his art. In true Nashville form, he started waiting tables to fund his real job. It's very possible he has waited on you--and if you had bad service...he does apologize. Trevor has been a full-time artist for four years, but can still carry four water glasses in one hand.
His background in graphic design is evidenced thru his paintings...the simple yet grown-up compositions and use of color are extraordinary. Trevor works with a palette knife, vibrant paint, and little regard for conservation. Each piece is constructed of at least two thick layers of paint. A brush is used only to sign his name.
Trevor loves art and seeing new places. He has traveled extensively through North America, Asia, Europe and Australia. He is influenced by a lot of contemporary artists but especially loves the works of Richard Diebenkorn, Wayne Thiebaud, Wolf Kahn, and Carolyn Evans. And he has a silly little Boston terrier named Monet. Monet does not paint. Trevor has been selected to do a 20' x 12' installation in the Nashville Airport from June-September 2008.
